Melvin J. Tonkon and Catherine Fox co-founded Apex Research Institute in 1984. Dr. Tonkon was a clinical professor of Medicine at the University of California, Irvine. He was board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, and was active in protocol writing, data analysis, publications and he enjoyed an international reputation from his topical lectures in many countries. He had a succesful private cardiology practice beginning in 1977 and more than twenty years experience conducting clinical trials where he served as principal investigator for more than 400 trials. Cathy Fox played a key role in establishing Apex Research Institute in the medical research arena and assumed full responsibility for its operation upon Dr. Tonkon's untimely passing in 2006.
